HI

Although I am vehemently opposed to the attempts of Maragaret MacDonalds wishes to legalise assisted suicide and euthanasia I have some sympathy for her family and friends as any tragic loss is very sad. I do not subscribe to any religious analogy regarding suicide or euthanasia being an atheist but there seems something very wrong in it and it could be used for personal pernicious or financial reasons. In many cases the people wanting these terminal options which are often for their own use or that of close relatives or friends rather than a consensus of unbiased opinions outwith any duress or pressures. Should I ever feel suicidal I feel that can be achieved without the involvement of others and if it cannot so be it and it would be something one would have to live with. What I cannot subscribe to is that changes in the law that will affect everyone should take place to just accommodate the few who may be in a state of personal desperation and I'm sure in some cases of an unbalanced state of mind.

Having been one of those who vehemently opposed Margo MacDonald's attempts to legalise euthanasia/assisted suicide, I agree with the above re her passion. Indeed, for some years I had been praying, on a daily basis, that she would be converted, and healed - and that her undoubted passion and oratorical skills would be used in support of life, rather than death. sadly, Father's answer to that request was 'No'.

Our sympathy, and prayerful support, should now go to her family and close friends.
