MSPs standing for re-election in 2026

After a five-year slog, MSPs rejected the McArthur Bill in March, voting 69-57.

87 members of the 2021 Scottish Parliament are standing for re-election on 7 May 2026, including 46 who voted against the McArthur Bill, 40 who voted for it and 1 who abstained. All candidates need to hear that assisted suicide is a vote-defining issue: we know from recent polling that a clear majority want politicians to fix palliative care before giving any further consideration to a change in the law on “assisted dying”.
